1 - CELT TEACHER TRAINING COURSE (Initial Qualification): We offer an internationally recognised TEFL teacher training course, approved and accredited by ACELS (Advisory Council of English Language Schools of the Irish Department of Education).
This course is open to applicants holding a primary university degree or equivalent and following interview non-graduates can also be admitted to the course. The course is designed primarily for native English speakers, but it is also open to non-native speakers who hold the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) or equivalent.
The course includes:
- Classroom tuition with experienced, qualified TEFL trainers
- Lesson observations in actual classrooms with bona-fide overseas students and experienced teachers
- Individual tutorials
- Project work
- Access to a TEFL resource library
- Supervised preparation for teaching practice
- 6 hours of assessed teaching practice with students from overseas
- 6 written assignments
- 6 half-hour feedback sessions with an assessor
- Advice in seeking employment in Ireland and abroad
- Full time courses timetabled as a 4-week course, consisting of 140+ hours. Maximum of 15 students to a group.
- Part time courses timetabled as a 9 or 13 week course, consisting of 140+ hours. Maximum of 15 students to a group.

Course Conditions:
- Minimum applicant age: 20
- Minimum attendance required: Class meetings: 90% - Teaching practice and lesson observations: 100%
- Students should own a standard English grammar book, suitable for use in EFL teaching (e.g., English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy; Practical English Usage by Michael Swan), and a good English dictionary.
- A non refundable deposit of €150 is required at the time of booking. The balance of fees will be due one week before the first day of the course and are non refundable. N.B. All course fees are non-refundable once paid.
- Course fees are subject to change with 3 months’ notice.
- Maximum enrolment: 15 students Minimum enrolment: 9 students
- TEFL Course Coordinator tries to meet all accepted graduate applicants for an informal interview and to answer questions before the beginning of the course.
- Non-graduate applicants must attend an interview and language assessment before acceptance to the course.
- All candidates are asked to complete a pre-course task to be presented on the first meeting of the course.

2 - FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHERS TRAINING COURSE (Local Certification) incorporating ACELS JUNIOR TEFL COURSE (Preparatory Qualification for State-Qualified Teachers):
This course is designed specifically for teachers (Native and Non Native Speakers) who wish to learn to teach a foreign language outside the state system. State-qualified school teachers who hold or are in the process of being awarded a H.Dip. or B.Ed. qualification will be awarded ACELS certification (SQT TEFL) which allows them to teach English to juniors in the private sector in Ireland.
The course includes:
- Grammar and Langauge review
- Teaching Methodology
- Classroom observation
- Minimum English Language Level - B1
- Lesson Planning
- Maximum 12 candidates
